"Giuseppe Gerbasi, 35, and Francesco Pedone, 32, are both from Palermo. They have explored the interior identity of their local communities as a prime interest. Palermo was and continues to be a city that offers many ways to preceive reality, and one that is perpetually more challenging and difficult. The Mafia in its many manifestations is the point of interest for these two photographers, and throughout the 90's they gathered together many aspects: the slaughtering of Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Bosellino, the daily homicides, the arrests and the season of the great trials.
Giuseppe Gerbasi began his profession with Publifoto, the most important and active photojournalism agency in Sicily. With this position he was able for six years to access the lives and realities of national and local figures, and above all with the paper L'Ora, which is an historical newspaper in Palermo and remains at the cutting edge of the Sicilian underworld.
In 1991, he entered Contrasto.
Francesco began his interest in photography immediately after graduating high school and before taking formal courses. He documented several reportage on artists and monuments of Sicily. He, like his partner, arrived at the Publiphoto in 1988, where for four years he perfected his knowledge of photographic techniques. He continues to apply his acquired knowledge and photojournalism experiences to interpret the world.
He has been with Contrasto since 1992."
