"Alessandro Cosmelli was born in Livorno on October the 18th
1972.
He obtained a geochemistry degree at the University of
Pisa.
He experienced his sensibility towards image arts as assistant
at his uncle's restoration studio, so he began his study about
photography as autodidact.
After living in the United States, from 1997 to 2002 he
travelled through different places of the Third World (Ghana,
Suriname, West Sahara, Haiti, Nigeria, Eritrea, Ivory Coast,
Philippine, Perù and Azerbaijan) realizing several
reportages.
During these photographic journeys, he decided to concentrate
his work on reportage as a professionist by observing the
dramatic condition of these populations.
At the moment his work is focused on different kind of
reportages: he began using colors and looking into our
contemporary society.
Nowadays Alessandro Cosmelli lives and works in Rome.
He joined Contrasto in 2003."

The agency's photographers, in addition to its close contact with the information and culture worlds, allows Contrasto to be a leader in the field of author photography.
Its vast range of activities (production and distribution of images for journalism, advertising and image consulting, fashion and publishing, archives available online) is guaranteed by the various resources it draws from; Most notably Magnum, the prestigious agency founded by Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson.
Contrasto is publishing house as well, working to realize photographic books, and exhibits in cooperation with Italy's public and private institutions.
The high level of Contrasto photographers' amounts to a gallery of unique images suitable for collecting purposes as well."
