"Riccardo Venturi was born in Rome in 1966. In 1989 he set out to work as a photojournalist dedicating himself to Italian current events and social themes. His first international reportage was on Neo-Nazi Germany and immigrants, Albania after the communist regime, and child prostitution in Thailand. In 1997 he won the World Press Photo award for his work in Afghanistan and in 1999, he received an honourable mention from the Leica Medal of Excellence for his photos about the conflict in Kosovo.
In March of 1999, he publishes his first book 'Seven Minutes'.
His reportages have been published from the major newspapers, both Italian and international, as L¹Espresso, Il Venerdì di La Repubblica, National Geographic, Le Nouvelle Observateur and Time Magazine.
Besides following international news, he is currently working on mid-long term projects related to conflicts and post-war situations, especially in Africa and Asia.
On December 2003 he publishes his book on his long-term project on Afghanistan (1996-2003), 'Il Nodo del Tempo', enriched by a text written by Alberto Cairo.

He joined Contrasto in 2001."
